Bite Beauty Lip Lab Limited Release Crème Deluxe Lipstick in “002”: A Review

February’s lipstick is here! If you remember from January’s post, or pretty much anywhere else on the internet, last month’s lipstick was a bit of a flop. The color, in concept, was gorgeous. The formula was lacking. It was slippery and too sheer. That turned a lot of people off and February’s lipstick didn’t sell out nearly as fast. Bite Beauty said they “heard us” and just made a bunch more than last month. That could be true or it could be a clever cover for why demand wasn’t so high this time around.

Either way, they kept something much more interesting hush-hush. I was looking through the inspiration pics on their Instagram and saw this exchange:

At the bottom there, you can see their response to a question/complaint about the formula. That little comment was the only instance I saw/heard Bite Beauty mention that the formula had changed. It could be that I just missed a more official announcement, but I feel like that news would have been everywhere. Especially since it’s good news.

So, let’s get right to it!

Bite LE 002It’s pretty perfect. The color is, as advertised, a beautifully balanced purple-pink. Even better, whatever they fixed with the formula solved all of last months problems. The formula is thick and creamy and the pigmentation is perfect. I had no issues with slipperiness or streaks. I compared the ingredient list from this month to last month and it’s exactly the same. So, it’s safe to assume that the ratios and measurements are what changed. And thank goodness for the change!

I’m super happy with February’s shade. Assuming they continue to stick with this new, winning formula, I’m all in for the rest of the year.

I posted a few days ago about the Bite Beauty inspiration pictures for this shade and I tried to find good color matches. Now that I’ve got February swatched out, let’s see how I did.

Bite LE 002 UD Revolution Ladyflower Bite Lingonberry NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Prague

Above is 1) Bite Beauty LLLR 002, 2) Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in “Ladyflower,” 3) Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in “Lingonberry,” and 4) NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in “Prague.”

“Lingonberry” is pretty off, but the rest are close! Good eye, me!

Also, seeing swatches from different time periods next to each other is really messing with my head… Where’s my consistency?!

All in all, this lipstick is a winner. The downside with buying them with everybody else is that my review and pictures will almost always come out after the product is no longer available. Unless Bite Beauty find it in their heart to send me some early, there’s not much I can do about that. At this point, I’d say the formula had the kinks worked out so if you like the shade, buy the lipstick.

If you just can’t bring yourself to do it without hearing how others like it, keep your eyes on /r/makeupexchange. You might get lucky!
