Wednesday was the start of the VIB/VIB Rouge sale at Sephora, and stores all over were hosting events for Rouge members. I was thrilled, as this was going to be my first event since hitting Rouge status. The invite email promised all manner of goodies in addition to the 20% and I was fully prepared to walk away with a ton. My wishlist was polished and ready to be referenced! I grabbed a friend (HI KATE!) and off we went!
We walked into the event and, after registering, were given little name tags and a free Shashi bracelet. There was sparkling cider, candies, and cupcakes in the back. Everybody seemed very excited to be there and the employees were all very welcoming.
At this point, I hit my biggest snag of the night. The Sephora site crashed. App included. I couldn’t reference my wishlist, which meant I was shopping blind. I remembered a few things I wanted off the top of my head, but they ended up being out of most. Snag #2. And to add to my bad luck, this just so happened to be one of the stores that does not carry OCC. There went all the lip tars I was hoping to buy. Snag #3.
I mentioned in a previous post that I am not big on impulse shopping. I tried just walking around and grabbing things that tickled my fancy, but I couldn’t really do it. I had to stick to my script. Most of the things I remembered I wanted were out of stock. So I had to make do.
We were approached by a brand representative for Buxom, who gave us each 2 lip gloss samples. Then nobody else spoke to us the rest of the night. I was under the impression (from the email) that there would be more than one representative and more than one brand’s worth of samples. That was a big let down, and snag #4.
I still had fun, thanks entirely to the fact that I was allowed to bring a friend. It wasn’t that thrilling of an event. Luckily, the 20% off was all I really needed.
So, on to the goodies! Because I didn’t have my list, I wasn’t able to get very much. Once the Sephora site stops being the worst, I’ll order the bulk of my things.
#1 – Josie Maran Argan Love Your Lips Hydrating Lipstick in “Happy Honey”
This was one of the lipsticks that was both on my list and in stock. I’ll be honest, the weird look of it is what drew me in. Look at that thing! It’s so weird! Pigment in the middle, argan oil on the outside. I hate gloss but wanted a glossy looking “easy lip.” This is that. It’s just the teensiest bit of color and it’s certainly hydrating. The color is so subtle that I’ll show the swatch again with my bare lips for comparison.
Bare of left, product on right. I definitely recommend this one. It’s a universally flattering nude/MLBB color. It gives just enough color to clear up imperfections. The wear time isn’t fantastic but it’s not really meant to be. Just an hour or two. But, when you get that it’s more balm, less lipstick, then it’s no problem. And it’s just such a breeze to toss in your bag and swipe on when you need a no-fuss lip!

#2 – Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in “Naked”
This one was an impulse buy. Well, sort of. It was on my list ages ago but I’d since decided against it. As the event started winding down, I felt like I needed another lipstick, if only for the sake of the blog! So I did a quick arm swatch and fell in love with the color. I took it home, did my lip swatch and realized it looked familiar. Really familiar. Now, I have a good eye for color. I don’t think I have any lipsticks that look exactly alike. Until now. Aside from the finish, “Naked” looks exactly like Bite Beauty High Pigment Lip Pencil in “Sable.” The one from the Bite Beauty Remix set.
That’s “Naked” on the left and “Sable” on the right. This is what I get for impulse buying. I’m writing this from an airport (headed back home to Austin for a wedding!) so I can’t return it immediately. And, a part of me is tempted to keep it. I mean, it’s a different finish. This one has a sheen while “Sable” is more matte. It’s still a great lipstick! I really love the Revolution line. I totally recommend it, but NOT if you already own the Bite Beauty Remix set! #3 – Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in “Super Strawberry”
This was a 100 point perk and I couldn’t resist. I was going to pick up the sample of the Dior mascara but either they stopped doing the mascaras or this Sephora wasn’t doing that perk anymore. Anyways, I had fully intended to walk away with at least 5-6 lipsticks that night. I needed to up my numbers! I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The color is a deep(ish) pink that, for some reason, I am in love with. It’s just super flattering. The color payoff is really, really light though. It comes off incredibly sheer and takes a bit of layering to get a stronger color. But, as you know from previous posts, that’s the only formula I can tolerate when it comes to chubby sticks/pencils. Sheer color and slightly glossy finish. As far as wear time, it lasted a pretty decent amount of time. I’d say a couple hours. Then it left behind a very subtle stain. This one is great for just tossing in a bag and touching up as the day goes on.

#4 – Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in “Leslie”
This blog is still fairly new, but it has to be common knowledge at this point that I hate glosses. I hate the stickiness and the shininess and how thick it feels on the lips. And they’re almost always sparkly (like these) and I hate that too. All that being said, I think I love this. What is happening to me?! It smells like a candy cookie rainbow birthday cake surprise but leaves a nice, minty tingle to the lips. It says it’s a plumper but, if it is, it’s very hard to notice. The gold shimmer in the product is inoffensive and subtle, catching the light just every now and then to give a quick sparkle. It still has the thickness and slight stickiness of a gloss but it’s not terrible at all. I totally recommend checking these out. Also, they have 99 fucking colors. I’m not even kidding. They have a ton. I don’t know why. This one is a very light peachy-pink and it looks great. I do not think I’ll be trying the bazillion other shades though.

#5 – Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in “Dolly”
Same product, different color. This one is even prettier. It’s a gorgeous light mauve shade that adds just enough color to set it apart. I think I’ll be wearing this one more than once. Oh, and just a heads up that Buxom has another lip gloss with this exact shade (Full-Bodied Lip Gloss). They say the difference is that there is no tingle. There are also not 99 colors. I like the tingle though, so I’ll stick with these.

As I said, I’ll be buying a bit more once I get through to the Sephora site. So keep your eyes peeled for those posts!
PS – I bought some non-lipstick things at the event but won’t write about them since this is a lipstick-centric blog. If you’re curious though, feel free to ask me about it in the comments (and make sure you have response emails checked)! I picked up:
Josie Maran Tinted Moisturizer
Josie Maran Rose Gold Eyeshadow
Too Faced Glitter Glue
PPS – The Shashi bracelet they gave us came with a coupon code for 30% off your purchase until Feb 1st. If y’all are interested, the code is ShashiLovesSephora30.
